
It is always best to close any open Window applications or virus
utilities before installing any Windows program application. Additionally, system privileges must be provided
for loading components into c:/windows/system directories.
Any previous version of the ABB GENIE II PROGRAM should
be removed. This is done in the Windows
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
1.
Insert the ABB
GENIE II PROGRAM CD-ROM.
2.
In the Windows
Start Button on the Microsoft Task Bar, go to Settings>, then Control
Panel>, then double-click on Add/Remove Programs and follow the on screen
instructions. (For downloaded programs go to the directory the program was
downloaded to)
3.
Click on the
Install button.
4.
In the
‘Install Program from Floppy Disk or CD-ROM window’, and click next.
The Setup program should start by ‘Copying initialization files.’ If you are a first time user, the Setup may
request to shutdown and restart your computer.
This is a standard Microsoft setup and allows for proper
registration. Click OK and allow the
system to reboot. Any error during the
install process should be reported to your IS administrator.
The Setup program will check for sufficient disk space. If there is not enough, Setup will stop the
installation process and advise you to clear space before proceeding.
To start the ABB GENIE
II PROGRAM, click the Start button on
the Microsoft Task Bar, then Programs, then ABB GENIE II PROGRAM.
To have easy access to the ABB GENIE II PROGRAM,
create a desktop icon. Once the desktop
icon is created, all you need to do is double-click the icon.

This sizing program is an essential tool to assist in the selection and
application of ABB flow meters and support troubleshooting issues. Many features have been incorporated to
provide the user access to standard physical properties, generic and intricate
process engineering conversions and ?what if? decision making with point and
click simplicity.
Design specification changes are easily entered and instantly
calculated. Entries that do not meet
specific meter design criteria are color-coded, with results blocked in yellow
indicating caution; those blocked in red indicate a specification has been
violated.
Advanced users may take advantage of entering specific data relating to
tap elevation, pipe roughness and process variables to further define the
sizing criteria.
Project information and other comments may be entered directly from the
main sizing screen for future retrieval and printing.
Results show meter calculations, design details, pressure drop factors,
power consumption and flow element hourly and yearly operating costs, and
more. References for calculation basis
can be extracted from physical property tables and other standard data tables.
Results can be saved directly to Word and Excel formats, and E-mailed to
end users, purchasing contacts, or co-workers.
This program is intended to be used as a tool for the selection and sizing of ABB flow meters based on application conditions. All results are estimates using either empirical data or industry accepted equations and may not reflect exact results when in actual use. ABB Automation Inc. provides this program ?as is? with no warranty of any kind. The user assumes full responsibility for its application and use of data and results.

There are two blank areas on the Initial
Default Screen.

The area at the bottom
provides any area to enter any calculations or comments to be saved.

The area at the right
will provide the results of the selections after calculations are
completed. The slide bars at the right
hand side and bottom assist in viewing while in this initial screen.

To run the program, click START, the small blue arrow on the top Icon Toolbar or click the Calculate Button. Make any necessary changes and click START or click Calculate again for new results.
When selections are made out of specification areas, prompts appear to assist you. Prompts, as shown below, are two examples.

The Data Inputs & Units screen is the
default opening screen and the user may perform sizing calculations with no further
window selections, providing the process data is in actual conditions. Described below are the various sections of
the opening screen.
· Select Nominal Diameter between ½ inch and 36 inch by utilizing the drop down menu or slide bar to the right.
· Select Pipe Schedule by utilizing the drop down menu or slide bar to the right.
· Select Standard, Carbon or Stainless Steel.
·
Note: The
Selected Pipe Specifications are highlighted at the right. If the text in this area is black, the pipe
sizing exists. If the text is
highlighted in red, it is a non-standard pipe size. For wedge products, not all
pipe sizes/schedules may be offered within the standard product
line and may require a factory quotation.
·
Select Fluid Phase and select Flow Type. Available are Liquid, Gas, Mass Flow and
Volume Flow.
·
Note:
Changes made are visible in the Process Data at Flowing Condition
section shown directly below.
· Select Flow Element Type. Using the drop down box, the selections available are Wedge Meter, Venturi Meter, Orifice Meter, Flow Nozzle, Elbow Meter and Pitot Tube. (Example: If the Flow Nozzle is selected, the H/D Ratio changes to Radius of Curvature.)
· H/D Ratio is the default. Corresponding with the selection of the Flow Element Type, options become available for H/D Ratio, Beta Ratio, Radius of Curvature, and Velocity Head Factor. Use the drop down box to select options. (Example: If the Flow Nozzle is selected, the Radius of Curvature is shown. Select and highlight the default number of 0 and enter another number. In the drop down box to the right, select the appropriate measurement.)

Note: If the
default number is disabled, it cannot be changed, selected or highlighted, as
shown when selecting the Wedge Meter Flow Element Type.
Process data may be entered in one of the following ways:
ACTUAL CONDITIONS
1.
Process data for actual conditions may be entered directly on
the opening default input screen. Items highlighted in blue are the required
inputs.
2. The user may select the Fluid Properties button, enter pressure, temperature and density, then select one of the fluid properties sections at the bottom of the window bottom and find the fluid being measured. Calculations for MW, vapor pressure etc are calculated and brought forward to the calculation screen.
STANDARD CONDITIONS
1. For standard conditions the user selects the Standard Conditions button and again either enters both standard and flowing conditions directly and if required, selects the appropriate fluid properties button as above.

The Process Data at Flowing Conditions can be selected,
highlighted and new inputs entered.
Drop down boxes contain additional options.

· Below these results, a drop box is available to select a program variable or constant and monitor the value base don program input or changes.
· The Calculated Results defaults to a short form, providing the user with the minimum data required for sizing. By clicking Detailed Results, a long form report will be generated as shown further in this manual. This option can be uncheck by clicking with the left mouse button.
The Fluid Properties screen sets all fluid
properties based on selected fluid. Also
available on this screen is the Saturated Density button. Click for sizing options to select fluid
physical properties and to also calculate their results.
Actual Conditions


The Comments & Information Screen provides an easy workstation to enter any information and comments to be saved. Information can be entered directly from the keyboard or copied and pasted from another area or application.

The Calculated Results screen provides all
the calculated results and displays them in text format.

The Graphical Results screen calculates all results and displays them graphically.

The ABB GENIE II PROGRAM provides results within several Microsoft products such as Word, Excel or Note Pad. Microsoft Word Results are shown below and on the following pages. Results can be generated into a final report, logged for future reference, or e-mailed to project personnel. Results may be generated in a short or long form, with the long form shown on the next page.

Select
Fluid Properties @ Flowing Conditions provides 4 options. Click on the button or use the Alt plus the
underlined letter within the button. As
an example, Alt+S will bring up the Saturated Liquid Density.

In the tool bar, the graphical ChartFX icons assist in creating and viewing impressive graphics that are appropriate for your requirements. ChartFX’s Help Menu notes are provided herein to support your reading materials.
Gallery Icon provides Line, Area, Curve, Area-Curve, Step, Bubble, Scatter, Bar, Gantt, Cube, Candlestick, Open-High-Low-Close, High-Low-Close, Pie, Doughnut, Pareto, Pyramid, Radar, Contour/Spectral, and Surface.

Edges of the charts can be dragged to resize. Right clicking inside the plots provides the
following options:

Data Editor Icon toggles the data in or out
of the plot or by right clicking in the data area, placing the data in specific
areas on the chart.
The Tools Icon also provides the Series Legend, Data Editor, Palette Tool Bar and the Pattern Tool Bar.
Page Setup Icon provides options for Separate Legend, Use Printer Resolution and Force Colors. Margins and Page orientation are also available.
Vertical Grid Icon toggles from full grid

Grid lines. Displays horizontal or vertical gridlines at the major interval of the numerical (y) or categorical (x) axis, respectively.
Grid lines General Properties
Major Gridlines. Lets you choose a specific format for gridlines displayed at the major interval in the selected axis. Please note gridlines must be displayed in the Axis General dialog.
Color. Select an option in the color box to change the gridline color for gridlines displayed at the major interval in the selected axis.
Style. Select an option in the Style box to specify the line style for the gridlines displayed at the major interval in the selected axis.
Weight. Select an option in the Weight box to specify the line weight for gridlines displayed at the major interval in the selected axis. In some systems, if the line style is different than solid the line or border weight must be 1 pixel.
Minor Gridlines. Lets you choose a specific format for gridlines displayed at the minor interval in the chart area. Please note gridlines must be displayed in the Axis General dialog.

Align with labels. Ensures that labels are displayed centered and aligned with tick marks at the major interval in the selected axis.
Interlaced. Lets you display interlaced colors between a range of gridlines in the chart area. The main color is taken from the color used in the major gridlines and the secondary color is taken from the background box set in the general dialog.

3D. Displays the chart in 3D mode
Cluster. Lets you display series in different rows along the z-axis.
Stacked. Displays the chart in stacked, stacked 100% or normal mode.
Axis Style. Applies a specific painting style to the axis.
Grid lines. Displays horizontal or vertical gridlines at the major interval of the numerical (y) or categorical (x) axis, respectively.
Palette. Select a specific palette to change all elements in the chart area. Please contact your software provider if this option is empty.
Scheme. Sets a specific scheme to elements in the chart area. Default is solid colors, you can also choose B&W or colored patterns.
Background. Click the color you want in the area surrounding the chart
Chart Box. Click the color you want in the plot area.
Chart FX Properties Series Tab

The Series Tab provides quick access to placing labels on the chart points. It also provides the capabilities to change the markers, shape of the markers and the marker sizes.

Series Selector. Lets you choose a particular series or <<All series>> to apply different formats an options.
Series Properties
Fill Color. Click the fill color you want for the selected series.
Lines & Borders.
None. Removes the border from the elected series. If the selected series is a 2D line, the line will be drawn using the fill color.
Custom. Applies the custom border and line formats you choose for the selected series
Color. Select an option in the color box to change the border or line color for the selected series.
Style. Select an option in the Style box to specify the line style for a line or border.
Weight. Select an option in the Weight box to specify the line weight for a line or border. In some systems, if the line style is different than solid the line or border weight must be 1 pixel.
Styles
Gallery. Select a chart type for the selected series or the entire chart. If a particular series is selected, a multitype chart will be displayed in the chart area. Please note, not all chart types can be combined.
Gap Width. Type a value between 0 and 100 to specify the amount of space you want between categories of data markers. The larger the value, the greater the distance between categories.
Square. Selects the 3D shapes of a marker. For column, bars, and cube charts displays the marker as a rectangle.
Cylinder. Selects the 3D shape of a marker. For column, bars, and cube charts displays the marker as cylinders. Type a number in the box to specify the number of sides in the base of the cylinders.
Cone. Selects the 3D shape of a marker. For column, bars, and cube charts displays the marker as cones. Type a number in the box to specify the number of sides in the base of the cone. For example, if this box is set to 4, the marker will be drawn as a pyramid, the greater the value, the more realistic cone you will obtain.
Shape. Select an option to customize the marker or point shape for a line, polar, step lines or curve chart.
Show every. Lets you choose how frequent data markers are shown in the selected series. For example, if you have 100 points you can choose to show the point shape every 10 markers.
Size. Changes the size of the data marker or point for a line, polar, step lines or curve chart.
Show Point Labels. Displays the value of each data point in the selected series.
Visible. Shows or hides the selected series.
Drop Lines. Extends drop lines from each marker to the x-axis for an area chart. Please note the drop lines will be formatted using the Border properties, so a border must be set prior to displaying drop lines.

The Axes Tab allows the placement of Tick
marks and Tick mark options. View the
details for additional properties for Axis, Tick, Scale, Labels, Gridlines and
both major and minor line color, style and weight.

Axis Style. Applies a specific painting style to the axis.
Axis General Properties
Axis Selector. Lets you choose the axis to be formatted.
Visible. Lets you show/hide the axis in the chart area. When hidden the axis will not display gridlines, tick marks or labels.
Major Unit. Type a value in the major unit box to specify the interval of major tick marks, gridlines (if they are displayed) in the selected axis. Labels on the selected axis will also be displayed according to the major unit setting.
Show Gridlines. Lets you show/hide gridlines at major intervals on the selected axis.
Tick mark type. Displays tick marks at the major gridlines of various shapes (cross, inside, outside, none) for the selected axis.
Minor Unit. Type a value in the minor unit box to specify the increment you want minor tick marks and minor gridlines (if they are displayed) for the selected axis.
Show Gridlines. Lets you show/hide gridlines at minor intervals on the selected axis.
Tick mark type. Displays tick marks at the minor gridlines of various shapes (cross, inside, outside, none) for the selected axis.
Axis Label Properties
Orientation. Sets the amount of text rotation for labels in the selected axis. Use a positive number in the Degrees box to rotate labels from lower left to upper right. Use negative degrees to rotate labels from upper left to lower right. We recommend the use of notable (30,45,60).
Show Labels. Hides or shows labels for the selected axis.
2 Levels. Displays staggered labels. This option is particularly useful if labels overlap because of lack of space in the selected axis.
Rotate with chart. Ensures that labels will rotate according to the angles set in the 3D rotation dialog. Use this option if you want to give labels a special effect when the chart is rotated.
Title. Type the text you want for the axis title. To insert a line break, click where you want to insert the line break and press CTRL-ENTER. The title will appear when you hit apply or OK.
Axis Scale Properties
Minimum. Sets the smallest data value for the selected axis
Maximum. Sets the highest data value for the selected axis
Scale Unit. Type a number to divide numbers and reformat labels displayed in the selected axis. This option is particularly useful when you have big numbers in the selected axis. For example, if you have 10.000.000 and want to display 10 as labels in the selected axis, type 1.000.000 as the Scale unit and all axis labels will be divided by this factor.
Format. Applies a specific format to the labels in the selected axis. Select the options you want to specify a number format.
Decimal Places. Enter a number to specify the number of digits displayed to the right of the decimal point.
Logarithmic Scale. Recalculates the scale values (minimum, maximum, Scale) for the selected axis in powers of 10 based on the range of data plotted in the chart. No zeroes or negative data are permitted on logarithmic chart. This setting applies only to numerical axes.
Zero Line. Select this box to have the category (x) axis cross the value (y) axis at zero (0). If you have negative values in the chart, the marker will cross the category (x) axis when this option is selected.

Interactive Rotation. Lets you rotate the chart interactively by clicking and dragging a specific marble around the two intersecting plates. The Preview displays the rotation angle you have chosen for the chart.
Rotated View. Lets you activate the 3D rotated view for a 3D chart.
X Angle. Rotates the plot area around the X-axis, the rotation is measured in degrees. The rotated view box must be checked before applying the X-axis rotation.
Y Angle. Rotates the plot area around the Y-axis, the rotation is measured in degrees. The rotated view box must be checked before applying the X-axis rotation.
Shadows. Lets you choose a specific rendering method for a 3D chart. By default, the marker colored will use a fixed angle method to achieve a color degradation, which will display a more realistic effect in 3D chart.
Depth. Use the slider in the Depth selector to specify the depth of a 3D chart relative to its width.
Perspective. Use the slider to set the ratio of the front of the chart to the back of the chart. It ranges from 0 (default) degrees to 100 degrees.
The screen settings for the ABB GENIE II PROGRAM should be set at 800 x 6000 pixels. Color should be 256 color or higher. To access the desktop settings, go to the
Start Menu, select Settings, select Control Panel and select Display. In the Display Properties menu, select the
Settings Tab.
The ABB GENIE II PROGRAM icon
is easily placed on the Windows desktop by following these instructions.

Right click on your Windows Desktop where the
Icon is to be inserted.
2.
Select New.
3.
Select
Shortcut.
4.
Click Browse
to locate the ABB GENIE II PROGRAM .exe file.
5.
Click Next.
6.
ABB GENIE II PROGRAM is highlighted in the ‘Select a name for the shortcut.’
7.
Click OK. Click Finish.
